This is my bucket. Don’t worry…that’s NOT the giveaway for this month! It’s ugly, very rusty, and bent quite a bit out of shape…much like myself. It’s been burned, kicked, and even run over by my Jeep – which bears a striking resemblance to both myself and the bucket (and is now running in case you’re wondering after that last review). The bucket isn’t much to look at, but there’s a lot tied up in its contents. As you can see, the bucket is filled with about five gallons of cigar remnants. They have accumulated over a few years’ time, and represent countless hours spent amongst friends, through good times and bad…but mostly good. Quite a few people have come and gone from our little group (The Cigarmy), but all have enjoyed the brotherhood that grows during those hours spent together with a stick or bowl of tobacco. Roughly 25-30 guys have contributed to the bucket, although the core group is comprised of the five pictured below. This friendship-building is something that certainly draws me further into the hobby that we all share, and I think the same could be said for the majority of folks who partake in it. It goes by “the Brotherhood of the Leaf”, or any number of other clichéd monikers, but as with many clichés there is some truth in the name. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll smoke a cigar alone in a heartbeat. But that experience often pales in comparison to getting together for a smoke with a small group of guys whose company I enjoy. There is a great deal of common ground among most cigar and pipesmokers, even if they are not a part of each others’ smaller, more familiar group. We can meet and instantly have the shared bond found in the leaf, which facilitates an evening’s conversation at the least. There are, of course, plenty of cigarsmoking numskulls to be found that need a good punch in the throat…but they’re usually in the minority. Dealing with them is a small price to pay for the opportunity to build friendships that can grow and deepen over many years to come.
I say all this to lead in to this month’s giveaway. We’re giving away a Cigar Caddy 5-stick travel humidor, filled with 5 absolutely delicious Casa Fernandez Arsenio corojos. I personally love these sticks, as has everyone I’ve shared them with. So, the winner can smoke one and share the four others to make some friends. This month, there are two ways to enter: 1.) you can send me a picture that represents this brotherhood to you, or 2.) in absence of a pic, send me a story that represents the same. You can email your entry to email@example.com , or in the case of the story you could also just post it as a comment to this blog entry. I’ll be taking submissions from now until January 31st. As has become the norm, I’ll number the entries and have one of my kids draw a number to be the winner. So, anyway, thanks for reading, and good luck!
P.S. – If you don’t win, you can always get a great deal on these over at Florida Torcedores. If you use the coupon code CIGARMY, you’ll even get 10% off an already great price!
